THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING SHORT FILM ON STUDENTS VOCABULARY MASTERY AT ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL 17 MUARO JAMBI

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of using short films in supporting students' vocabulary mastery at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 17 Muaro Jambi. This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental research design, namely the One-Shot Post-Test Only Design. The population consisted of 170 eleventh-grade students, and the sample consisted of 35 students selected through cluster random sampling. The selected students received vocabulary instruction using short films and were subsequently administered a post-test. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, a normality test, and a One-Sample t-test through IBM SPSS Statistics. The findings showed that the students' post-test scores ranged from 70 to 96, with a mean score of 80.371, which was categorized as Good. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed, with a Shapiro-Wilk significance value of 0.059, which was higher than 0.05. Furthermore, the result of the One-Sample t-test showed a t-value of 8.395 with 34 degrees of freedom and a significance value of 0.000, which was lower than 0.05. The mean difference was 10.371, indicating that the students' mean score was significantly higher than the predetermined criterion score of 70. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It can be concluded that the use of short films was effective in supporting students' vocabulary mastery at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 17 Muaro Jambi.
